From First Gather to Finished Cup: Your 4-Week Glassblowing Journey

This 4-week glassblowing course takes participants on a hands-on journey from the basics of gathering molten glass to crafting their own finished drinking cup. Each week builds on foundational techniques, teaching skills such as shaping, blowing, and color application. Guided by skilled instructors, students gain confidence through practical experience, safety training, and creative exploration—culminating in a beautiful handmade glass piece to take home.

Week 1: Equipment, Tools, Safety and Your first gather of glass

– Basic introduction to equipment, tools and safety. We will then dive right in to learning how to gather glass from our furnace and becoming familiar with the material.
– Once comfortable you can move on to practicing shaping our glass on our steel table (Marver) and then maneuvering to our bench and practice placing Jack lines.

Week 2: Paperweights, Roses and More!

- Getting comfortable moving around the studio, getting your gathers and shaping your glass are key skills to making your first pieces of glass. The simplest items to make in the glass studio are solid objects. These will help you practice the basic techniques.

Week 3: Making Cups

– Blowing a bubble and learning to shape it is the backbone to any blown form, whether it's a cup, bowl or vase.

Week 4: Keep Practicing

– We will start by practicing what we learned in the previous class making cups.
– This class is reserved for really getting through the cup making process on your own with as much (or little) help from our instructor as you need.
