Your Glassblowing Journey Starts Here!

Every Monday whether you have zero experience or want to work on the skills you already have, this class is for you.
If you are new to glassblowing, we start you off by introducing you to the equipment and tools that are found in every glassblowing studio. Once comfortable moving around the studio, we will take our first gathers of glass from our furnace. Being comfortable around heat is a must in the Glassblowing Studio. With our gathers of glass, we will then practice marvering the glass and getting in and out of the bench to start practicing making Jacklines. These basic skills are the building blocks used in nearly every object we make in our studio.

Session 1: Gather/Jackline

– Overview of tools and equipment as well as a basic safety rundown. Gathering Glass out of our furnace on solid rods,, using the Marver to shape our glass and practicing making Jacklines in our Glass.

Session 2: The Bubble

– Refresher of studio terms (Tools, Equipment, techniques). Gathering Glass on a blowpipe, Marveling that glass to shape it and blowing our first bubbles.

Session 3: Color and Paperweights

– Learn about adding color to your clear glass, shaping with intent and getting a second gather of glass to make your first paperweight.

Session 4: Cups!

– Using all the knowledge you've learned to learning the steps to making your first cups.
